What is Intravenous Light Therapy?
Intravenous Light Therapy is an innovative treatment that can help to improve your overall health and wellbeing by accelerating the replenishment of your blood cells, using visible wavelengths of red, green and UVA light.
Blood cells are exposed to the light via a cannula that is attached to the UVLrx station, a specially designed machine that triggers the production of light. The cannula is inserted into the patient’s vein, eliminating the need for any blood to be extracted and introducing the stimulating light energy directly into the circulatory system, enabling the IV Light Therapy to take effect throughout the entire body.
At EF MEDISPA we use an advanced direct-to-blood treatment system, which ensures that most the patient’s blood volume receives a dose of light, using just one cannula. The treatment is carried out in one of our clinics by a registered nurse and requires no anaesthetic or post-treatment downtime.
All treatments are tailored to the individual and personal experiences and results may vary. We recommend a one to one consultation with our Treatment Coordinators to discuss your treatment options.
What Type of Concerns Can IV Light Therapy Address?
Intravenous Light Therapy can help to improve the repair and renewal of the blood cells within your body, making it a great add-on treatment after an aesthetic procedure. Intravenous Light Therapy can help to increase your energy levels, boost your immune system and improve circulation. It can also assist in reducing pain and inflammation as well as help to speed up the healing of wounds.

Intravenous Light Therapy Step by Step
1 NO OBLIGATION CONSULTATION
Firstly, you will need to book an appointment with our Treatment Coordinator to discuss the treatment in more detail. They will take your full medical history and assess whether you are a suitable candidate for the treatment.
2 MEET THE PRACTITIONER
Should you decide to proceed with IV Light Therapy, your next appointment with one of our Nurses will be booked. During your meeting, you will have the time to go through your medical history and get all your questions answered.
3 DURING THE TREATMENT
Intravenous Light Therapy is performed in our Kensington clinic by a fully qualified, registered nurse. The treatment takes around 75 minutes, and similarly to any other intravenous treatments you will be advised to ensure you are well hydrated before your treatment.
First, one of our nurses will take your full medical history and assess your suitability for the IV Light Therapy. Once approved, a cannula attached to the UVLrx machine will be inserted into your vein to deliver the stimulating red and green UVA light energy throughout your circulatory system.
We recommend 6 – 8 treatments to maximise the results. Treatments can be carried out on a weekly basis or more frequently if treating a specific condition or concern.
4 AFTER THE TREATMENT
Intravenous Light Therapy does not require any anaesthetic or recovery time – you can return to your daily activities straight away. A small dressing will be applied when the cannula is removed but this only needs to remain in place for a few hours.
We do advise that you avoid alcohol for 24 hours after your treatment and drink plenty of water. It is also advised that you keep the treated area clean and dry, avoid any heavy lifting using the arm that the cannula was placed in as well as any exposure to swimming pools, saunas or steam rooms for the rest of the day.
FAQs Intravenous Light Therapy
What are the benefits of each wavelength?
Intravenous Light Therapy introduces red, UVA and green light to our bloodstream. Each one of them has its own unique benefits:
- The red wavelength can help to reduce pain and inflammation as well as help to speed up wound healing.
- The green wavelength can assist with the oxygen flow on your blood and microcirculation.
- The UVA wavelength can help with boosting your immune system.
Can I combine it with other treatments?
Intravenous Light Therapy can work as a course of treatments or as an add-on to other treatments. Since it can help with wound healing it could be combined with surgical or aesthetic treatments that involve traumas. In addition, the treatment could also be combined with our IV Vitamin Infusions at the Drip & Chill Lounge.
